FHRI, in collaboration with International Labour Organization (ILO) of UN had organized workshops for the print and electronic media in Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta. The main objective of these workshops was to create and strengthen knowledge about ideas and values of human rights among the media personnel, the importance of which has become critical due to the prevailing situation in the country. To motivate and enable media people to participate in the process of awareness creation, education on pressing human rights issues is definitely required. These activities have proved to be extremely useful. This becomes more obvious when you see that people who have attended the courses are now writing and broadcasting a great deal on topics of human rights issues. The number of articles on human rights issues has increased tremendously during the last year. Most participants later followed up many cases, highlighting abuse of human rights and have regularly been printing articles concerning Domestic Violence, Discrimination against Women, Minorities Rights, Child Abuse, Bonded Labour Honour Killings etc. Print media is also making considerable contribution through special posters on human rights for display in police stations and district offices.
Fazaldad Institute has undertaken a very extensive program aimed at bringing about tolerance and moderation in society. The avenue used is the education system, and government organization involved with human rights issues. All this is being done in close collaboration with a broad spectrum of civil society organizations and with relevant federal and provincial government offices.
